There is a lot of information on vaccines and genetically-modified food, both in the media and online. It’s become a hot topic, and it is hotly debated. For those who haven’t done any research but are wondering what all the fuss is about, there is a new documentary that includes a lot of information about these very topics.
This documentary is a compilation of interviews centered on the assertion that the American public is not being given complete and correct information about vaccines and GMOs (genetically modified organisms). The interviews included are with scientists, researchers, attorneys, medical doctors, activists, and individuals, all of whom have different but significant information on major pharmaceutical companies and biotechnical products used on the food supply.
The documentary starts with an interview with a mother whose son, Porter, experienced an adverse reaction to a vaccine he was given when he was a baby. The adverse event was proven in Vaccine Court, and her family was awarded a settlement to reimburse them for costs associated with caring for Porter both as a child and going forward. She describes the difficulty she had going through the process of receiving that validation.
It goes on to interview a former executive sales representative of GlaxoSmithKiline who became a whistleblower when his company started selling a drug approved for patients 18 and older to children off-label. When he questioned the legality of this action while employed, he was met with extreme resistance and eventually fired. The same thing reportedly happened to Allen Jones, an investigator for the Pennsylvania Office of Inspector General when he discovered that a drug produced by Johnson & Johnson had been pushed through the official government approval process using fraudulent data on the safety of the drug.
In further interviews with Suzanne Humphries, M.D., Gayle Delong, Ph.D., and Mary Holland Esq., and others, it is argued that ingredients in vaccines—first mercury and later aluminum—are significantly correlated with the trend of increasing incidents of autism, diabetes, and other diseases. In particular, Stephanie Seneff, Ph.D., who is a senior research scientist at MIT, asserted that her research showed 50% of children will have autism by 2025. Also, Diane Harper, and independent research scientist who Merck advice on how to test the safety of the Gardasil vaccine against HPV and cervical cancer, pointed out that Merck negotiated with the FDA to make a claim of effectiveness that did not completely represent what the vaccine could do accurately. She also pointed out that it was very unlikely (7 in 100,000 chance) that a woman would get cervical cancer anyway if they followed the recommended pap smear regimen, so the vaccine seemed a little unnecessary. Sherri Tenpenny, D.O., a doctor practicing integrative medicine, pointed out that the amount of aluminum used in the Gardasil vaccine was very high, further making the point that this vaccine may be dangerous.
The documentary presents testimony that “pharmaceutical companies write checks on both sides” of the political aisle, and that there is a big conflict of interest in both the data used to determine if drugs are safe and the officials weighing that data. Mainly, many officials that work for the FDA often have worked previously at major pharmaceutical companies, and some later go back to working for those same companies after working at the FDA. Also, it is argued that most of the research done on drug safety is done by the pharmaceutical companies themselves, and that the data isn’t trustworthy.
A similar case is made against big agribusiness, such as Monsanto. Chengsheng (Alex) Lu, Ph.D., M.S., an associate professor at Harvard University, talked about the correlation between a certain new kind of pesticide used and the collapse of bee colonies. It is insinuated that what kills bees may harm humans, and the documentary includes several interviews with activists who argue that pesticides and pesticide-like genes inserted into the DNA of some of the most basic and widely-used food products could be harming the human health. Many of these activists argued for GMO labeling for food products so that shoppers could make educated decisions on what they consumed. However, once again many interviewees claimed that legislation to protect consumers was slow and difficult to achieve because of the amount of money agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology companies were able to spend in lobbying, campaign contributions, and marketing the idea that their products are safe.
